So I am not one for order and therefore my posts are a little… well erratic. Here is one some months old on the Topkapi palace, a must-go place in Istanbul, and some other pics of shennanigans that went down.
Topkapi Palace
Topkapi palace is in the Sultanahmet area, like most old touristy things in the city, and it is absolutely amazing. It was also the residence of the Sultans of the Ottoman Empire for more than 400 years. We went in January while it was still winter but some flowers didn’t disappoint and I am guessing it only gets prettier from there on! Though the palace is amazing, and filled with some of the most exquisite jewels (not pictures because cameras weren’t allowed boo) it’s tile art was my favorite. It is super intricate and you can see inscription in Turkish though written with Arabic letters. You also get a pretty sweet view of the Bosphorus River from almost all sides of the palace. (Yeah, the sultans knew what they were doing)Basilica Cisterna
Another pretty touristy place but pretty worth to see id the underground cisterna, which still stands since the Byzantine Empire. Near Hagia Sophia you will be able to go down into the cistern and see old ruins including two medusa heads used as pillar supporters.
Have you ever been to Istanbul? What places do you recommend adding to this list?
What is your favorite ‘touristy’ thing to do?
In addition to your list, you must include the Blue Mosque, and the Grand Bazaar! I also loved my ride on the quaint little Istiklal Avenue tram! Turkish Delight is also a must! 😉
Absolutely! The Blue Mosque was wonderful and the Turkish delight too. I wasn’t so keen on the bazaar mainly because it was so organized! Um, yeah I can’t help it but like it messy! Thanks for reading!
